This year’s Composite Decking and Railing Conference addressed decking and railing category growth as well as how the composite segment can grow its share of the category.

Attendees heard how the residential remodeling recovery is proceeding with a focus on decking permit growth tied to consumer demographics. In addition, distributor and dealer best practices were discussed on how to develop a highly productive sales team that knows how to sell composite decking and railing. The conference also covered product advances in composite decking and color-infused treated lumber and how the competition for category share will heat up over the next few years. The first day wrapped up with feedback and commentary from deck contractors on issues raised in all sessions.

CDR 2013 explored changes in railing colors and designs, and best practices for managing railing inventory, and different sales and merchandising approaches to capitalize on the profitable segment. The conference also highlighted outdoor living lifestyle trends, developments and impact on material demand at the dealer and contractor level.
